* * *

We met many of the Princesses at a special Princess breakfast. You have to make reservations months in advance, as it sells out quickly. During your meal, Princesses decked out in full ball gowns and surprisingly bad wigs flutter from table to table. They stop at each one, sign autograph books and have their pictures taken. I try to get them to break character but they never do. They're so committed to their roles that it's almost a bit creepy.

For the kiddies, it's their first celebrity encounter. It's like if you were eating in a restaurant that served mediocre food and Robert De Niro or Madonna walked up to your table to chat for a moment. Or if President Obama asked you if you were enjoying your eggs.

It costs a lot of money to hang out with royalty. This was the most expensive breakfast I'd ever purchased. It's an ordinary American breakfast; scrambled eggs, bacon, juice, potatoes and, for mom and dad, two cups of strong coffee. Breakfast for two adults and two daughters:

This is the mantra that is repeated over and over as you navigate through Disneyworld:

My memories began with that check.

I was a bit aghast when I first went to the States at the size of the tips expected - especially at the Russian Tea Rooms, but one soon gets used to it and the service was usually so slick I found myself congratulating the waiters.
You look slimmer - have you lost weight?

Looks like we are about even on your Disney meal and my 5th ave. wallet buster from Christmas.
The best thing about the "Characters" is how they act after work, I had the opportunity to party with some of the costumes many years ago, lets just say that every time I see Pluto or Princess whatever a wee smile creeps up my face.
Cheers

Pat: Tipping has gotten out of hand here in the U.S. "Tipping cups" are EVERYWHERE. And I always feel guilty if I don't drop something in! BTW, I haven't been to the gym in about six weeks, which could account for my deflated appearance.

SF: I would love to spend time with the people behind the masks. I imagine they have some pretty great stories to tell. And, yes, 5th Avenue will pick your pocket clean.

daisy: These were taken over the course of two days, silly. What are you thinking?

SF: Thanks for the link! I'm hip. Tartan Week is a pretty big deal up here. I think I did a post about it last year. The National Theater of Scotland did a show called Black Watch about the military organization that was really stunning.

Don't you look all starry eyed and pleased as punch to be arm in arm with all those princesses!?!?! ;-)

But seriosuly... $125 for breakfast???? How ridiculous is that! They know they've got you by the short ones there, don't they.

Sav: Still enjoying the memories and paying the balance on the credit card. Now that you mention it, perhaps I *don't* want those pics floating around when The Daughters are older!

Ponita: I tried all my flirty tricks with the Princesses but it's just not any fun when my WIFE is holding the camera. Re: the breakfast. I think they consider it dinner and a show. Still...c'mon. $125 bucks?!?!

HIF: It wasn't that kind of breakfast. Or vacation, for that matter. Unfortunately.

Pat: Not exactly, but I WAS slathered with SPF 50 sunscreen, which is highly unusual for me.

When I said I was expecting a photo...I was thinking more Mickey Mouse or Pluto.
What great memories(besides the whacking bill!) you all have.

MT: ANYBODY looks good with a princess in a ball gown standing next to them. Place your hand over the half of the photo containing the princess. Now what do you think?

MIT: I generally don't like posting pics of the kids and Mrs. Wife wants to remain anonymous but, trust me, this trip has been well documented.

I'm so glad Daisyfae asked about your outfit changes. A two day breakfast, no wonder it was so expensive!

nurse: It was Disney, for cryin' out loud! Where's the quality?

Eryl: Two days?! I wish. The whole shebang lasted about :90 minutes.

my first trip to visit you was when I was 14. I have pics of us eating $7 ice cream cones in the Village. (I know this because the two of us are holding up enough fingers to equal 7.) That was a huge deal then.

ah, the 80s. when ice cream cones were expensive but breakfast, cheap.

I'd like to see the chickens that laid the magic eggs that you had for breakfast!
Good grief, I can't get over the price...

kono: You should have seen her in the flesh! Yikes! I tried to chat her up a bit but lost my skills in the presence of such hotness.

Mich: I know exactly what photo you're talking about and always wondered why we were holding up seven fingers.

Scarlet: Those scrambled eggs were okay but they sure as hell weren't magic. I'm pretty sure that's not what we were paying for.

You liked Snow White best. Yes/no/can't say?

March 26, 2011 at 10:47 AM
Blogger The Unbearable Banishment said...

Nimpipi: NO, I did NOT like Snow White the best! I would put her near the end of the line. Jasmine did it for me. An astonishing beauty. Ask Mrs. Wife! She agrees! Pocahontas was also super lovely but, sadly, I didn't get a pic with her.

Is it weird that I was really happy to see a black Disney princess?

Growing up I always liked Belle from Beauty in the Beast. There's this scene in the Disney movie where all the birds just sit on her. For me that was perfect. A girl who could enchant even animals!

Blogger The Unbearable Banishment said...

Sid: Nope. Not weird at all. It took too long, if you ask me. All the "minority" princess were hotter than hell. Jasmine. Tiana (the black princess), Pocahontas.

Any breakfast that cost $125 should include champagne and caviar, especially if there are saccharine princesses involved.

I'm afraid that if I had daughters their memories would not include a breakfast with princesses.

So, you like women in wigs, huh?
