There is a season

Last night it got down to 58F (14C). The air conditioner was decommissioned and the windows were opened. While my back was turned, the calendar flipped from August to September. I had to break out a jacket this morning. That's it for summer. So long. Adios.

Bring it on. All-day pots of hot coffee, Sunday New York Giants football games, more theater openings than I have the time or money for, roast beef and potato dinners and thick sweaters.

It's all very nice but I'll miss watching The Daughters dance on the beach. [Family lurkers: click pic to see your niece.]

Billie Holiday knew:

Yeah well it doesn't seem like Cape Town got the "It's officially Spring" memo. It was storming last night. And I'm yearning for summer to begin. I'm yearning to surf again. I'm yearning for summer sunset concerts.

Sid: Be patient. You'll get yours. We all do.

Nurse: It's the power of Billie Holiday's voice! None can resist!

Ahhh, I love autumn and winter. The two best seasons. Oh, apart from spring.

Summer? You can keep it. What's fun about sitting in the office when it's lovely and warm inside?

How cruel of you to flaunt something this southerner can only dream of.

(But I do love the song and video - thanks!)

I love autumn in Brooklyn, but I had forgotten that I did. Thanks for reminding me.

Nutty: Plus, I like my autumn/ winter wardrobe better than my summer wardrobe.

Lori: I suspected that this might get under your skin. So sorry. Sort of.

Leah: You forget because you grew up here and take it for granted. Leave it to me, a transplant, to keep you in line.

Autumn - it's the best. Dozing with football on, root vegetables and pumpkin seeds, the hiss of school buses and the smell of new crayons and wet leaves. Since I wither in anything over 75 degrees, I heave a big sigh of relief and come back to life when Fall arrives. I'm so anxious to experience it here in Germany. Beautiful daughter pic.

I love winter. It's a beautiful spring day today but still, I love winter. I'm dreading this summer.

I'm ready for the summer, myself. Bring on the heat and dancing on the beach. Let's get it on.

OK and what are you feeding MY niece since we saw her last. She looks like she grew 12 inches and don't tell me it's the angle of camera.
She is the last baby and I needed her to stay that way.

Sally: And the leaves. Don't forget the leaves.

E: If you're rooting for the Giants, does that mean I have to pull for the 'Hawks?

TE: I assume you don't get a lot of snow? You might not like winter so much if you did.

AFM: So wierd to think that you are standing on the threshold of summer. It's football season, for cryin' out loud!

MT: What are you thinking? That's S! Not K!
