The Unbearable Banishment: This time, the New York Post has gone TOO FAR!

This time, the New York Post has gone TOO FAR!

Longtime readers know that I'm a huge fan of our low-rent, Rupert Murdoch-owned, tabloid delight New York Post. To say that their covers often lack, ahem, dignity, is stating the obvious. It's like accusing water of being wet. Recent favorites have included calling Congress sacks of shit and the Photoshop abuse of Tiger Woods.

Here is the cover of this morning's Post:

My God! Newsstands all over Manhattan display the daily papers front and center. Little kids walk by and can see this stuff! It's a new low, which is to say, a new high. The photo and caption are self explanatory.

Bull - 1. Matador - nil.

I'm no fan of the Post's loony politics, but I really do love these covers. How could you not?!

I totally bought this earlier just for that incredible cover shot. Then promptly hid it from Hedgehog.

OMG, that is incredible! I am so behind the news I didn't even know about this.

How'd they get them apart?

Holey moley - I thought it was photoshopped. What a horrible thing to happen. Then again, bullfighting is not my idea of a fair sport

Leah: Hiding it from Hedgehog was the right thing to do. It would have given her terrible dreams.

Savannah: You could do a lot worse than leave the south for New York. We're never bored.

Daisy: The Post has a lot of covers with a high yuk factor.

PG: That could have been the alternate caption.

EG: Apparently, the horn slipped out when the bull stepped back. It should have took his jaw with it.

Nurse: Agreed. I know it's part of their culture but I think it's time Spain retire this "sport." And I, too, thought it was a doctored photo.

Hey, everyone. For the morbidly curious of you, SkyNews has a rather disturbing film of the accident.

oh good lord.... I went and watched that video.... *shudders*

I have always abhorred bull fighting. They still do it in Mexico too and I will never, ever go to a match. It is horrible, horrible cruelty to the bull.

I also hate the sensationalization that so many newspapers use to sell copies....

At least they didn't say something fatuous like, "Chin up!"

Ponita: I almost NEVER watch the videos of this ilk. I don't want it rattling around inside my head at 2:00 a.m. But I did peek at this one.

SB: Actually, I always assumed that the U.S. tabloids learned their trade from the British press.

Kykn: You have a second career writing headlines waiting for you.

Heningway thought that this was a test of a man. To face danger face on and stare it down...
The recently released WWII footage and "The Pacific" TV series has me wondering why anyone would want to watch death as a sport.

Just read Anon's comment and I'm all like, "Holy shit, I just quoted Hemmingway on my blog."

Also ... I'm afraid to click on the photoshopped abuse link. I'm afraid that it might not be safe for viewing at work.

Anon: Poor old Hem had a distorted view of manhood. Remember, he left his brains all over the wall of an Idaho cabin, despite having children who relied on him. What a man, indeed.

Sid: The link is pretty tame stuff compared to what's up there right now.

Ruby: I'm not quite sure how to thank you. Perhaps our form of payback was exporting Baywatch to your shores.
