Adieu! Adieu! Adieu!

Dear Central Park:

Here's one final blast of frost up your bum before I leave town. See you in nine months.

All my best,

Old Man Winter

And, finally...

...because it's all you need, they say.

*     *     *

"You know those days when you've got the mean reds?"
"Same as the blues?"
"No," she said slowly. "No, the blues are because you're getting fat or maybe it's been raining too long. You're sad, that's all. But the mean reds are horrible. You're afraid and you sweat like hell, but you don't know what you're afraid of. Except something bad is going to happen, only you don't know what it is. You've had that feeling?"

Truman Capote
Breakfast at Tiffany's

Yes, Holly, my sweet. I know what that is.

Oh! Now these are pictures to shoo the blues away. And maybe take the edge off those mean reds...
Thanks, pal.

FABULOUS Pictures, my dear....!! I love them all---New York, at it's finest-----My favorite is the one of the couple walking with their backs to us; the lady in red with matching umbrella....This Is Classic!

I always loved that speech from "Breakfast".....I hope the 'Mean Reds' are replaced by 'The Blues', Pronto! (I have been concerned about you because you have been 'in absentia'.....Now I know why, kind of....) I hope all will be better soon, soon, soon..

Very picturesque for those who can look at the pictures without feeling it on their bum. Although, don't the Russians have snow baths or some such crazy shit? If I had the mean reds I'd go for a dip.

Record-safe streets! It's a fact! Some people don't like it, but having been mugged a few times, I don't mind so much.

In fact, that simple little walk in the park on my lunch hour was quite cathartic. My head is full of gunk.

They're about to open a stage production of BREAKFAST on Broadway. Not a musical. Straight play. I hope they dont muck it up. some Brit playing Holly. She's in Game of Thrones, which I've never seen. I was reading the book in preparation. I had forgotten how beautifully written it is. Try putting the movie out if your head and reread it fresh.

Nice to look at. Nice to walk through. Gives the mean reds a run for their money. Leave your troubles at the park entrance; pick them up on your way out.

Honestly, I never thought the post title would be taken that way. My bad! I try not to play silly games like double-secret-hidden-meaning post title.

To sit at your table and feast on some of the things I've seen you post would be a DREAM come TRUE. Are seconds allowed?

As I said above, I forgot how great that book is. It's much, much darker than the movie. Just what are all those paid trips to the power room? What does that mean? Ironic that the quintessential southern writer would spit out the quintessential New York City novel.

Your assertion that "things probably won't get any better" was both hysterical and accurate. Like a good shot of bourbon.

something about a heavy, wet spring snow that is mesmerizing. we had the same bit here on Wednesday. it's 70F today, and there are still a few piles of unmelted snow hanging around.

you gotta learn to plan as best you can, then get back to living in (or near) the moment. all that red gunk in your head gets in the way of seeing the stuff that is right here, not lurking in the shadows of your imagination. sending some good ol' head clearing thoughts your way!

I've given up the mean reds for Lent - the blues are bad enough.
Our March(UK) has come in a veritable lion and we are probably be going to blown off the planet.

So clever to capture the red with the couple walking. Positively Spielbergian.

I was looking at the snow out my 13th floor window and felt kind of melancholy that it was the last snowfall of the season. I don't mind it so much. It's a lot of work but it's also very beautiful. Thanks for the niceties. I need a hobby. And I don't mean drinking or tom catting around. I need a proper hobby. Any ideas?

Boy, if there's anyone who has earned the right to have the mean reds, it's you. I think about you a lot, actually. I hope you're well. April is just around the bend, according to my calendar.

I was in Manhattan on the weekend and there were only a few bits of slush left. It was lovely and springlike and I barely had to wear my coat so my mean reds flew away immediately. And then I got my touristy thrill by celeb spotting Tim Gunn at Fisca and my happiness was completely

Let me tell you something...I've lived here for (mumble-mumble) decades and spotting a celebrity never gets old. NEVER. And if you get close enough to say something stupid and embarrass yourself? All the better.

Central Park is one of the few places in the city that looks great with snow. Nice pix! Personally, if I never saw another snowflake again, I'd be a happy camper. I love the cold but I hate the snow. And meanwhile today it was positively SPRINGLIKE!

The bonus of a snowy Central Park is that it's usually empty. Tourists tend to not pack snow boots. So after a big snowfall, you can meander through an atypically quiet park and get some crowd-free shots. But you already knew that, yes?

You get such good snow, ours is wimpish in comparison.

I wish I could help you evict those reds, mean bastards.

The snow out here is fantastic until the day after. Then it's a bit of a mess. But it's beautiful to behold until then.

Everyone gets the reds. Mine are so special. But they are mine, nonetheless. Thx.
