Grand Central Station at 6:30 a.m.

The loneliness of the long-distance commuter.

This passageway leads out to 42nd Street. It's one of those you do what you gotta do photos. Grand Central Station looked a lot more festive around the holidays, but now it's back to the grind. For everyone.

I've never seen any section of Grand Central that empty.

Jeff: If you get there at 6:30 in the morning you'll encounter a whole lot of quiet.

reminds me of my favorite tunnel - between the United Airlines B/C concourses in chicago. if you hit it at 4am? freakily empty... with neon ceilings and 'rhapsody in blue' plunking from unseen speakers... from your photo, i can almost hear his footfalls.

I'd like to spend at least a week being guided around such an interesting city in the company of yourself.

Daisy: I love big public spaces before the bustling mobs arrive. They're creepy.

Jimmy: I'd be happy to take anyone for a tour. I feel the weight of expectations!

Ellie: Actually, I thought of posting it in black and white! For real! The architecture would have lent itself nicely.

Marinka: Welcome! No charge. This time.

Map: Grand Central is usually pretty litter-free. It's the thorough cleaning crews. Not the thoughtful people.

HIF: Thanks! Isn't that something?! I'm so excited! I'm like a child looking for parental approval.

Gnu: On many mornings, that guy is ME!

I'm soooo having a hard time adjusting to life, to reality, to the routine. I just can't handel it.

My favourite times in a city are when it's that quiet. Bloody love it when there's no one else about, it makes somewhere seem like a completely different place. I know London without the crowds is insanely eery. Is that how you spell eery? I don't think I've ever written it before.

I'm playing blog catch up so just saw your response. Gives me a chuckle! You should have tried the black and white. Occasionally there is a pic that is too good in colour and I am severely tempted. Hope you're over your post Xmas blues. They are hard things indeed. I don't remember really suffering them until 3 years ago.
